Latest Information on Honda Recalls

Details of the Recall

Honda has recently announced a significant recall affecting nearly 295,000 Honda and Acura vehicles in the United States due to a software issue that could potentially cause engine stalling. This recall, announced on January 23, 2025, includes certain 2023-2025 Honda Pilot SUVs, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S SUVs, and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S sedans.

The issue stems from improperly programmed software in the fuel injection electronic control units (FI-ECU), which could lead to sudden changes in the throttle, causing the engine to hesitate, lose power, or even stall. This could increase the risk of accidents or injuries. Honda has stated that the problem was identified through monitoring telematics information and has not resulted in any reported injuries or accidents so far.

Steps for Affected Vehicle Owners

Honda is encouraging owners of the affected vehicles to take their cars to an authorized dealer for a free software update. The update will reprogram the FI-ECU with the correct control logic settings. Owners should be on the lookout for a notification letter expected to be mailed out in mid-March 2025. Additionally, owners can check if their vehicle is affected by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Previous Recalls

This is not the first major recall for Honda in recent months. In October 2024, Honda recalled around 1.7 million 2022-2025 Acura and Honda vehicles due to a steering issue caused by a manufacturing defect in the steering gearbox. The defect could lead to unusual steering noises, difficulty in turning, and even a sudden loss of steering control.

Global Impact

Honda's recall efforts are not limited to the United States. In India, Honda Cars India has announced a recall of over 90,000 vehicles due to defective fuel pump impellers, which could cause the engine to stall or fail to start. The replacement parts will be provided free of charge starting from November 5, 2024.

Honda continues to prioritize the safety of its customers and is taking proactive steps to address these issues. Vehicle owners are advised to follow the recall instructions and get their vehicles repaired as soon as possible to ensure their safety on the road.
